It also warns you when the leftover looks long enough for one more piece but the kerf would leave it short.

BOARD FEET, NOMINAL AND ACTUAL A 2x4 is not 2" x 4". Lumber is priced by nominal board feet but built from the actual size, so this shows you both, plus the real section.

EXACT ARITHMETIC All the maths is done in exact fractions — never in decimals that drift. One inch is exactly 25.4 mm, so converting back and forth changes nothing. Rounding happens only when the answer is shown, to the precision you pick (1/2 through 1/64), and always rounds to the safer, longer side.
